How you are gaining or losing your weight

When it comes to reducing weight, everyone will talk about calories.

What is calorie?

It is nothing but unit of energy. Check the label of any food items to know the amount of calories it contains. For example, if the label says the food contains 200 calories, then it means you will get that much amount of energy by eating it. Average amount of calories required for healthy adult male to maintain his weight is 2,500 Kcal per day to maintain his weight. For adult women, it is around 2,000 Kcal per day.

Calories required for an individual will vary depending on the age and physical activities. Your body intakes calories by eating foods and it will be burned by exercises and physical activities.

Calories will be burned for any physical activity you do - like sitting, standing, walking, exercising, dancing, running, etc. Even a certain amounts of calorie are burned for breathing and speaking.

Reasons for weight gain:

If calorie intake is more than the amount of calories burned, then the remaining calories are added to your body which results in weight gain. In case you’ve started gaining weight over a period of time, then try to take low calorie foods.

 Fruits and vegetables are low calorie foods which help you to maintain or reduce your weight.

Reasons for weight loss:

In case calorie intake is less than the amount of calories burned, then you will start losing weight. If calorie intake is less, then your body will burn your body fat and takes the required energy which results in reduce in body weight.

3500 calories is equal to 1 kg or 2.2 pounds.

It is based on the calories that you will gain or loss weight. If 3500 calories are added to your body, then your weight will be increased by 1 kg or 2.2 pounds approximately. In case you’ve burned 3500 calories, then your weight will reduce by 1 kg or 2.2 pounds approximately.
