Kidney stones - Home Remedies


Many home remedies are available which would help to dissolve, flush out and prevent the further occurrence of kidney stones. Though they are not completely proved to be successful, it certainly had helped to reduce the pain and the recurrence of the stones to an extent. Normal people who had not a history of stones can also use these as precautionary measures.

Water:

Drink plenty of water, at least 2.5 – 3 litres daily, to produce clear urine each time you urinate. Higher the intake of water, chance of recurrence of kidney stones is lesser.

Make a habit of drinking more water in empty stomach so that the toxins or any acidic minerals settled in the kidney is flushed out when the first time you urinate. This is one of the best home remedies which helps not only to prevent kidney stones but also has many other significant health benefits.

Lemon Juice:

One of the effective and natural home remedies which is available in home. Lemon juice contains citric acid that helps break down the calcium-based kidney stones. Drinking two to three glasses of lemon juices daily helps in curing kidney stones to a great extent.

Watermelon:

Watermelon is packed with water and potassium content which is an essential ingredient for a healthy kidney and also helps to maintain hydration level in the body.

Regulating and maintaining the level of acid present in the urine is easier if you eating and drink watermelon juice every day.

Pomegranate:

Enjoy a serving or two of pomegranate juice every day. Pomegranates contain antioxidants that protect the body from damaging free radicals. Also, the seeds and juice of pomegranates have astringent properties that help to treat kidney stones.

 Kidney beans:

The pods in kidney beans were used as an effective home remedy for kidney stones. Remove the beans from inside the pods, and then boil the pods in purified hot water for at least three hours or until the pods become softer.

Strain the liquid through a fine muslin cloth, allow it to cool and then drink it several times throughout the day to get relief from kidney stones.

Reduce or Restrict animal protein:

Animal protein, especially red meats, increases the risk of developing kidney stones. Red meats and organ meats are high in a substance called purine which increases the body’s production of uric acid and can cause kidney stones.

Basil leaves:

Try taking one teaspoon each of basil juice with honey daily for up to six months. Pure basil juice can help induce stone expulsion from the urinary tract. Also, basil tea can be taken throughout the day for overall body health.

Be strict on Salt and Soda:

Limit your sodium consumption to no more than two grams per day and go for any alternative supplements. Soda and salt are considered the risk factors of increasing kidney stones.

Count on Calcium:

Calcium is an important supplement to a human body. Avoiding it completely is not advised and your doctor’s advice can help you with the amount of calcium your body requires based on your kidney stone and medical history.

In general, too much intake of Calcium rich foods may increase the risk of recurrence of kidney stones.

Diet and fitness:

Dietary changes may require and can be helped by your physician. Adding more fiber contents to your meal helps maintaining a proper nutrient balance and avoids constipation.

Try to exercise daily for at least half an hour to keep your body fit and healthy.
