Heart attack - Overview

Heart attack is the common type of heart disease. Heart attack is the death of the heart muscle due to blockage in one or more of the coronary arteries caused by the loss of blood supply. It is also known as myocardial infarction, coronary thrombosis, and coronary occlusion.

It is mainly caused due to the buildup of waxy substance called plaque inside the coronary articles. The condition is called atherosclerosis. The buildup of plaque occurs over many years. This causes the blood to clot and form on the plaque’s surface. If it grows large then it blocks the blood to flow inside the coronary arteries.

Other forms of heart diseases include the following:

  1. Heart infections
  2. Congenital heart defects
  3. Heart valve problems
  4. Cardiovascular disease
  5. Irregular heartbeat
