Kidney stones - Overview

Kidney stones are solid materials formed due to the mineral which settles out of the urine into the kidney or the ureter. In simple words, they form from the chemicals in the urine. If the stone is very small, it passes along the urine without any pain or discomfort. On other cases, when the stone stops intermediately in the urinary tract, causing a blockage, it causes an intense pain in the abdomen area or in the lower back region.

A study says that one in every 20 – 25 people develop kidney stones. Also, men are at higher risk than women in this case.
