Sepsis - Overview

Sepsis is a potentially life-threatening illness. It is caused as a result of your body’s overwhelming immune response to bacterial infection that gets into the blood. Our body releases chemicals into the bloodstream to fight infection. Sepsis develops when these chemicals cause inflammatory responses and spreads it throughout the body. If treatment is not taken immediately, this infection can lead to multiple organ failures and tissue damage.

Although sepsis can affect people of any age group, people who are very young and old are mostly at risk. It can affect any part of the body and is a medical emergency.

Do you know? Most common infection is bacterial but it can be from fungi, parasites or viruses as well.
