Throat cancer - Overview

Cancer, in general, is the disease of the cells in the body. Many such abnormal cells multiply uncontrollably in the body and causes cancer. Throat cancer refers to cancerous tumors of the vocal cords, larynx (voice box), or other parts of the throat. Most of these cancers develop in the squamous cells that line the throat. People who smoke and drink alcohol, are the most at risk for developing throat cancer.

Throat cancer can be grouped in two categories: Pharyngeal and Laryngeal cancer.

               Laryngeal caner can develop in your voice box (larynx)

               Pharyngeal cancer can develop in your throat (pharynx)
