Fever - Symptoms

When your temperature rises above its normal range then it should be a fever.  It makes you uncomfortable. Following are the symptoms and signs of fever:

  • Temperature will be greater than 100.4°F (38°C) in adults and children
  • Shivering, shaking, and chills
  • Anorexia - lack of appetite
  • Intermittent sweats or excessive sweating
  • Aching muscles and joints or any other body aches
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Headache
  • Dehydration - preventable if the patient drinks plenty of fluids
  • Skin flushing or hot skin
  • Feeling faint, dizzy, or lightheaded
  • Problems concentrating
  • Eye pain or sore eyes
  • Weakness
  • With very high temperature (> 104 F/40 C), convulsions, hallucinations, or confusion is possible. Seek medical attention.
