Adhd in children - Symptoms


The symptoms of ADHD can be categorised into three types based on their behavioural problems. They are Predominantly Inattentive, Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive, and Combined type.

Predominantly Inattentive: A person with this symptom is easily distracted, forgets very important details such as daily routine, have problems organizing tasks and activities.

Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive: A person with this symptom often fidgets, talks excessively, has trouble waiting for his or her turn, acts inappropriate to the situation and is restless.

Combined type: Symptoms of both the above two types are equally present in the person.

Other common symptoms also include:

  • Makes a lot of careless mistakes
  • Inability to sustain attention
  • Loses things
  • Have trouble in completing tasks
  • Interrupt others unnecessarily
  • Climbing on the furniture
  • Have trouble understanding simple details
  • Very impatient
  • Have difficulty in waiting for things
  • Constantly inattentive

Please do not worry/panic if you see any of these behaviours in your child. All these characters are mostly common and present in all the children. Only when it becomes extreme or inappropriate compared to the other children of the same age, you need to be careful and seek medical attention.
