Tonsillitis - Treatment

Most cases of tonsils don’t require antibiotics and can clear up of their own in less than five days. If your tonsillitis is caused by a bacterial infection, then the doctor may prescribe antibiotics. Doctors say that for a mild case of tonsillitis, treatment isn’t necessary especially if a virus, such as a cold, causes it. For severe cases, such as when you have difficulty swallowing and unable to eat or drink, doctors may suggest some antibiotics.

Other useful and popular methods to treat tonsillitis are:

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Gargle with warm salt water several times a day
  • Take pain killers (not advisable/necessary for milder tonsillitis)
  • Get plenty of rest
  • Eat comforting foods

Try using a humidifier to eliminate dry air
