Diarrhea - Types

Based on the severity and number of days of occurrence it is classified into two types:

Acute diarrhea:

It is mainly caused in the digestive tract by viral, bacterial or parasitic infections and also by intolerance of foods. It usually lasts for about 1-2 days and can be cured without any treatment.

Chronic diarrhea:

It is the most serious condition in which it lasts for more than two days. It is caused by some of the serious problems such as irritable bowel syndrome, diabetic diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's disease and celiac disease. Chemotherapy (Cancer treating drugs) is also the man reason for chronic diarrhea. This chronic diarrhea leads to excess loss of fluids from the body (Dehydration) which requires immediate medical treatment.
