Fever - When to call a doctor

Call the doctor immediately if any of the below mentioned conditions persists:

  • If the temperature is 103°F (39.4°C) or greater
  • If the fever lasts more than seven days
  • If the fever symptoms get to be more worse

For Children:

Under 3 months: It is highly recommended to call a doctor if your children below 3 months is having fever of 100.4 F (38 C) or higher.

3 to 6 months: A fever of 101°F or higher.

Over 6 months: A fever 103°F or higher.

Also consider one or more symptoms for children and adults:

  • a fever for more than 2 days
  • vomiting or diarrhea
  • a headache, or pain in the stomach or limbs
  • ear ache
  • problems swallowing fluids
  • pain with urination, back pain, or shaking chills
  • problems breathing
  • a stiff neck
  • rash

Pregnant women who are having fever of over 101°F (38°C) should be consulted immediately with the doctors. Since fever causes the above mentioned symptoms, it will affect the baby as well.
